literature assignment OverviewThis is one of the two options for the final project in this course. For this 2000-word project (a little longer is fine), you will write an essay modeled on one of the keyword-focused essays youve read this semester. For examples, see the readings by Montfort (keyword: adventure), Salter (keyword: narrative), Golding (keyword: music), and Wolf (keyword: world-building). Basically, you will pick a keyword or key term that is relevant to video games in some way, shape, or form, then write an essay in which you explore that keyword, demonstrating its relevance and using games as key evidence/illustrations along the way. You must pick a keyword other than the ones used by the assigned and optional course readings. (So the words music, world-building, narrative, adventure, etc. are off the table, though you can be creative and use synonyms as appropriate.) Your piece should be scholarly but accessible, written in a manner appropriate for both those interested in game studies and those interested in video games more generally. AssessmentAs I respond to and assess your papers, I will be looking for four key things: Consideration of audience. One of the hardest things to do as a writer is not to write as if your reader already knows everything you know, and thats what Ill be looking for here. You need to describe and clarify unfamiliar people, games, events, and so on so that someone who hasnt done the same research you have can still follow along with what you have to say. This might include anything from a whole paragraph in which you describe a games plot or mechanics to a few words in which you introduce the title or profession of one of your sources. (For example, instead of Watson says, you might write, According to Karen Watson, a game critic for Computer and Video Games Magazine.) Write for readers, not just for yourself. You must have at least eight sources for this paper. Two of those sources must be video games that you use to anchor your argument. Youre welcome to use Undertale, Kentucky Route Zero, and Celeste as one or both of those sources, and youre welcome to bring in more than two games as needed. However, any additional games wont count toward your six remaining sources. Of those six, at least two must be pieces of scholarship (in game studies or some other relevant field), and at least two must be journalistic pieces about games (from gaming-focused publications or any other relevant journalistic platform). The nature of the remaining two sources is up to you. I dont care what citation style you use as long as you use one. MLA, APA, Chicago, etc. are all fine.In addition to the paper itself, you will need to submit a piece of reflective writing (500-750 words) in which you talk me through the decisions you made and the process you went through in researching, writing, and revising your project. The writing style can be informal and direct, as if youre writing me a letter about the project. You can acknowledge challenges or problems you encountered as well as successes. Submit your reflection as a separate document in the same dropbox where you submit the final draft of the project.ChecklistSome of the following items repeat information included above, but heres a quick rundown of what you need to do to get credit for this assignment. Remember: its pass/fail. Hit all the items below and you get full credit. Submit first draft, at least 1500 words long, to the corresponding dropbox and peer workshop forum by the beginning of class on 8/2.Submit draft as .doc or .docx file.Integrate and cite the eight sources described above (additional sources are fine).Format the paper according to a style of your choice (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.).Follow the general conventions of scholarly writing (Montfort, deWinter, Salter, Golding, Wolf, and Kocureks Night Trap: Moral Panic are all good examples here).Make a consistent, focused argument about the relevance and role of your keyword to games and game studies.Do you need a college paper help from professional writersOrder a Similar plagiarism free essay . 100% Guarantee High quality!!
